To celebrate the start-up of SciSS we invited our Members to join us on a Sustainable Summer BBQ the 21th of May in Slottsskogen. The event was inspired by the concept of Food rescue parties, which resulted in the name: Barbrescue. It was a great success with more than 40 participants!
The theme of the Barbrescue was sustainable food consumption and food waste. To raise attention to the problem of food waste we invited two experts to give sustainability presentations. Simon Eisner, who is the founder of Allwin, told us the idea behind his business which is to pick up food that is going to waste from grocery stores for a fee, and then deliver this food to people in need at various organisations. This was followed by an in dept presentation by Karl-Johan on food waste and an example of a solution in form of dumpster diving as an alternative to minimize food waste.
The main part of the food cooked and served at the event was saved from going to waste by the food-rescue company Allwin.
